Too Tired

So my day was super busy and I was so tired that I wrote my whole post and put it on the CU homelearners site!  Oops!  Well suffice it to say, flag football is fun - but exhausting.
We had a great meeting today for HOUSE - a local homeschooling group.
Then rushed home to get ready for Flag Football Fun Day.
Sorry I don't have any pictures but we were too busy playing, but here is a picture of some cute thank you pictures we got from Amara and Indi.

Although lots of the adults that had said they would be there didn't show up we had fun playing with the Blue Jays.
Jon, Katie, Toby, Piper and I played against two separate teams of kids twice each, then we played a game against all 20+ of them at once.  It was tons of fun and we had some great plays.  Toby is self-proclaimed MVP. (LOL)  It even started raining, but the kids and our team didn't mind one bit.  Great season and we are looking forward to this fall.

High School Musical Memories

So, around 5 or 6 years ago we watched High School Musical 2.  Alex (4 at the time) was hooked.  For 3 years she was in love with all things High School Musical; she sang the songs, wore the clothes, owned all of the dolls that sang, wanted to marry Zac Efron.  For years whenever someone in our house asked "What time is it?" the answer was an automatic "Summertime!"
Time has passed, and High School Musical has moved to the wayside.  When we think of summer the song that comes to mind is "Summer Time Lovin" from The Regular Show, not "Summer" from High School Musical.
Because Disney Channel likes to replay their stuff, it is on again for the kick off of summer.  So Alex recorded them and she and Piper are in the living room watching it.  Amazingly I can still sing all of the songs and probably say most of the words too.  (Piper is singing along right now).

Pillowcase Dress!!!

Alex and I made our first ever pillowcase dress this evening!  We had lots of fun picking ribbon out and playing around with the design.  Isn't it cute?

THIS IS NOT ALEX'S!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  We plan on gifting it to an Anonymous source.
-Co-Authored by Alex.
Alex wrote THIS IS NOT ALEX'S AND an Anonymous source and she wrote this. :)

Guitar Lessons are Rockin'

So one of the first things I said when we came up with the CU homelearners idea was "We could have group guitar lessons!"  I had tried to teach myself off and on for the last 4 years, I bought 2 books and got through the first one after a few tries, but I couldn't seem to stick with it.  Well, we have had 3 lessons so far, and it is going fantastically.  Today we learned the G chord, and C chord.  It is so fun watching the younger kids joy as they play a chord correctly, or see an older kid really pick it up quickly (much more quickly than I ever could)  or look at another mother in the class and know that I am not alone in my quest to learn this darn thing!  Today one of the girls (she is seven) was totally rocking the strumming, getting really into it.  I just love this class!  I think I will post sometime about my music lesson history, because I find it to be extremely interesting, and maybe you would too.

Blue Jays Tournament Day

Our final week for Blue Jays Flag Football was tonight.  We had a great season with around 25 kids playing.  Everyone learned something new and had fun, so I believe we were very successful.
Some pictures for your enjoyment.

Coach Katie brought smoothies from Smoothie King for all the players and their families!

The Winning Team:  Piper's Orange Tigers!
Coach Jon passing out the early 20th century Indian Head pennies.

Other players received ancient Constantine coins (3rd-4th century).

It was great fun, and we will see about another session in the fall.

Pool Opening

Today I finished the ironing of the Blue Jays flag football t-shirts.  Our tournament is tomorrow!  My friend Niky helped us make 29 of these.  Aren't they cute?

I studied for my history of Rock and Roll class during the 3 minute iron timing sessions- Pop Crooners and Country and Western.  I am enjoying this class, but am sorry that I took it during the intersession: there just isn't enough time to listen to all of the music and really pay attention.  But at least I am getting it done.

After lunch Alex and I went to opening day at Sholem Aquatic Center.  This is the first summer that we haven't bought pool passes, but we didn't go much last summer.  Maybe Alex is old enough that we will end up needing one, but I think we will see how things go over the next few weeks.
Isn't she lovely!

Alex has been getting ready for pre-team gymnastics by practicing constantly in our living room.  See her knees?  Also, last  night she hit her lip on her knee while practicing a hand stand - forward roll (she was too close to the couch and didn't have enough room), and cut her lip on her teeth.  She is a trouper, she kept practicing.

To bring you up to date:

So, it has been a while.  How are things?  Great! Glad to hear it.  How are things for me?  Glad you asked because otherwise why would I even be blogging?
So much has happened.  A quick update:
Katie turned 18 and moved out (not necessarily in that order- a few days made a big difference to her). Toby turned 15 and spends most of his time on the internet at 2 am with friends who live in Australia.
Piper turned 13 is as social as she always has been.  Decided to go to middle school part time and is really loving it.
Alex is 9 and has been living for gymnastics.  She was just asked to join the pre-team and starts in 10 days.
I went back to school.  I was admitted to an online program at EIU (Eastern Illinois University) that was wonderful about forgiving all my youthful mistakes (also known as F's) and started me as a Sophomore with a fresh GPA.
We still have 3 dogs (Skippy, Ace and Girly) and still have some cats (not sure how many, LOL).
We are still car free.
So, now that people are up to speed, I'm back to blogging!  Yay!
